Autism Assessment

Autism Evaluations in Austin & Throughout Texas

An autism evaluation can help children, adolescents, and adults better understand their communication, developmental history, sensory experiences, and everyday support needs. Spy Creek Psychological Services offers individualized assessment, with Austin in-person appointments beginning November 2, 2026, and appropriate telehealth options for clients physically located in Texas.

When to Consider an Evaluation

People seek an evaluation for many reasons: longstanding social communication differences, a preference for predictable routines, focused interests, repetitive behaviors, sensory sensitivities, or questions about earlier developmental experiences.

Parents may want clarity about a child's development. Teens and adults may be exploring experiences that have been present for years. A referral question guides the evaluation; a particular diagnosis is never assumed.

What Assessment May Include

Your clinician selects measures to fit the person's age, communication style, abilities, history, and referral concerns.

  • A clinical interview and developmental history
  • Standardized autism measures and behavioral observations
  • Adaptive functioning and social-emotional assessment
  • Caregiver or other collateral information when appropriate and authorized
  • Additional cognitive, learning, attention, or emotional assessment when needed

Understanding the Whole Person

An evaluation considers how different experiences fit together. Attention difficulties, anxiety, developmental differences, learning concerns, and other factors may overlap with the referral concerns. We integrate the available information to explain the findings and identify practical next steps.

Children & Adolescents

Assessment considers development across home, school, and other settings. With permission, information from caregivers, teachers, and existing records can help explain strengths, needs, and day-to-day functioning.

Adults

Adult evaluations explore current functioning alongside childhood and developmental experiences. Existing records or input from someone who knows your history may be helpful when available; discuss any limitations with your clinician.

Results & Recommendations

You receive a written report explaining the assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions, and individualized recommendations. Recommendations may address treatment, further evaluation, and supports at home, school, or work. A feedback appointment can be arranged to discuss the results. Schools, employers, and other organizations make their own eligibility and accommodation decisions.
